Everyone deserves to be in the picture
An initiative inspiring photographers to create meaningful portraits with older adults in their communities.
We photograph the milestones. What about everything after? We photograph first steps, birthdays, graduations, weddings, and new beginnings. But as people grow older, the photographs often become fewer. This initiative began with a simple question: What would happen if we kept taking them?
It started with my grandfather.
When my grandfather passed away, I realized how few photographs I had of him. I could no longer take his portrait, but I could make sure other families had photographs of the people they loved.
So I picked up my camera and started reaching out to senior communities. What began as a way to create the photographs I wished I had became something much bigger.
What if more photographers did the same?
There are older adults in every community who have spent decades building lives, raising families, creating things, and collecting stories.
You don't have to be part of a large organization to photograph them. You don't need a studio or an elaborate setup. You can start with a camera, a little time, and a community willing to welcome you.
This isn't meant to stop with me.
